Retreat Facility Available

In response to the need for a retreat facility for Tibetan Buddhist nuns, as well as for Tibetan and non-Tibetan laywomen, we are very happy to announce that the Samten Tsel Retreat Center at Dolma Ling Nunnery and Institute will be available beginning September 15, 2019.

There are 8 single retreat huts: 5 are reserved for nuns and 3 are open for laywomen who wish to do a short retreat of 1 to 3 months in a simple, secluded environment. Serious practitioners only.

Set in a peaceful, securely walled garden, the purpose-built retreat huts are made out of local natural materials such as river stones and mud plaster. The roofs are made with slate to adjust to the local climate. Each hut has a small kitchen and a simple attached bathroom. The furniture is basic but very adequate.

Meals will be provided from the Dolma Ling Nunnery kitchen.

Cost is Rs.12,000 per month, including meals, which is approximately $175 US.

The three retreat huts for laywomen are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional information will be provided on receipt of your application.

Here is further information and some basic rules:

  • All the food will be vegetarian (not vegan) as cooked for the nuns but with one extra vegetable at lunchtime. We aren’t able to cater to special dietary requirements.
  • No visitors
  • Restricted use of electricity
  • Keep mobile phone use to emergencies only.
  • Remain within the facility and do not wander around or cause any disturbance to others.
