30th Anniversary Event

Our 30th anniversary is a great opportunity to celebrate our achievements and to thank all those who have contributed and worked with us to make these possible. It is also a chance for us to celebrate the awarding of the Geshema degree for the first time in the history of Tibet, since we were unable to invite many of our supporters and members of the local community to the Geshema Degree event in Mundgod Tibetan Settlement last December.

The 30th Anniversary event will take place at Dolma Ling Nunnery and Institute near Dharamsala from October 3 to 5th 2017. We are expecting around 1,000 guests for the main event, including our TNP India board members, local Tibetan and Indian dignitaries, NGO directors, and representatives from the local monasteries. We also have a large number of local friends and business people who will join us, along with the local villagers who have been our friendly neighbours for all these years and around 10 nunneries who will be participating in the Jang Gonchoe debate session. There will be more than 500 nuns at Dolma Ling at that time.

The celebration begins with a welcome dinner for all our foreign guests on October 2nd evening. For the following 3 days: 4th, 5th and 6th October we will offer visits to the nearby nunneries: Shugsep, Genden Choeling, Tilokpur, and Jamyang Choeling. These outings will also cover visits to the Tsuglhakang, and the museum of Tibet in Upper Dharamsala, to the Central Tibetan Administration, and the library of Tibetan Works and Archives, as well as to the Tibetan Children’s Village School so that our guests will gain a good understanding of the Tibetan community in and around Dharamsala.

Preparations for the event are already underway. An invitation card is being designed and will need to be printed and posted. We will also make name tags, banners, and decorations for the event. For the main event we will rent a large awning for the debate courtyard, a tent for the lunch, and a smaller tent for distinguished guests. We will rent carpets and mats to sit on, tables, sets of serving dishes, water jugs, and so on. Wherever possible we will use the chairs, plates, and other supplies from Dolma Ling Nunnery to reduce costs. We will need to rent a better sound system in order to make the event a success.

The 30th Anniversary is an important milestone and one we want to mark. Will you help us meet the costs of:

  • Tents: canopy for debate court, tent for lunch, tent including carpets and sitting mats
