Fundraise and Friendraise

A little goes a very long way to help the nuns.

Do you have something that you love doing, like baking bread, growing flowers, or making art?

Here are 10 simple and easy fundraising ideas allowing you to donate a portion or all of the proceeds to help the nuns.

  1. Sell Your Art: If you’re an artist or photographer, why not sell one or more of your works to help the nuns?
  2. Play Some Music: If you’re a musician, why not hold a little concert at your home and ask people to donate to help the nuns?
  3. Bake: Everyone likes cookies and cake. The old-fashioned bake sale is a simple way to help. You could also take baked goods to an event and put out a donation box to help the nuns.
  4. Sell Plants or Flowers: Gardeners often have extra seedlings, plants, vegetables or fruit that can be offered in exchange for money or donations to help the nuns.
  5. Clear Out Your Closet: Most of us have clothes in our closets that we don’t wear anymore. Consider selling some and donating the money to the Tibetan Nuns Project. Or hold a fun clothing swap event with friends and let people “shop”.
  6. Make Room on Your Bookshelves: Too many books? Why not sell some and donate the proceeds to educate and empower the nuns?
  7. Hold a Garage Sale: Declutter and support a worthy cause. It’s win-win. Get rid of unnecessary items while doing something helpful for others.
  8. Host a Dinner: Make it yourself or host a potluck and have everyone make a small donation to help feed the nuns for a day.
  9. Movie Night: Get the popcorn ready! You could even show a short video about the Tibetan Nuns Project as a preview. Here’s our YouTube channel.
  10. Trivia Night: Trivia nights are always fun. There’s plenty of online advice on how to host one. You could even add bonus trivia questions about the Tibetan Nuns Project.

Here are some other inspiring and creative ways people like you are helping the nuns.

Creative Ways to Help Tibetan Buddhist Nuns

There are lots of fundraising platforms out there, but we prefer that people donate directly through our website’s donation page to avoid external admin costs and so that we can thank donors.

Thank you for helping the nuns in this way! It is because of your kindness and generosity that we can continue to educate and empower over 800 nuns in northern India.

Sample Invitation

Here is some sample text that you can use to invite people to your event.

Dear

You are cordially invited to attend a fun [NAME EVENT] to turn our “compassion into action.”

I am thrilled to be able to host this event to raise awareness and funds for the Tibetan Nuns Project, which supports over 800 nuns and seven nunneries in northern India from all Tibetan Buddhist traditions, as well as nuns living on their own and in retreat. Here is the website: tnp.org. (You can add a personal sentence explaining why this is important to you.)

What:  [NAME EVENT] to benefit the Tibetan Nuns Project
Date:
Time:
Where:
RSVP:

Founded in 1987, the mission of the Tibetan Nuns Project is to educate and empower nuns of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition as teachers and leaders, and to establish, strengthen, and support educational institutions to sustain Tibetan religion and culture.

I am committed to this organization because of its work to open doors for Tibetan women, to empower them as leaders and teachers in their communities, and to preserve the Tibetan religion and culture.

As another supporter said, “A donation to this cause benefits beyond helping just the nuns… it benefits the Tibetan culture, it benefits refugees from Tibet, it benefits education for women, it benefits the Buddhist religion and community and all of this spreads like a ripple of compassion for others beyond that community. This is not charity; it is an investment in humanity.”

Please join me in this effort. Please come to my [NAME EVENT]. My goal is to raise [amount]. Any amount you can give is important — a little goes a long way at the nunneries, and it all adds up. The funds I raise will be used to provide food, education, clothing, shelter, and basic medical care for the nuns.

Please RSVP by [date]. I look forward to hearing from you.

Your support is important, and I truly appreciate it. Every dollar and thought helps these brave, dedicated women.

Sincerely,
