Improving Security With CCTV Cameras

Dolma Ling Nunnery and Institute, a nunnery near Dharamsala built and fully supported by the Tibetan Nuns Project, is home to over 270 Tibetan Buddhist nuns. The nunnery has a public path running through its large campus. Villagers can come through the main entrance gate and use the path even at night.

Disturbances and unwanted intruders have scared the nuns, and they have been trying to improve security. In 2024, a watchman’s hut was built at the nunnery entrance. In April 2025, the nuns used some of their general maintenance funds to install 18 new CCTV cameras equipped with night vision and motion detection.

Some of the nuns test the new cameras. The new system provides much clearer footage so it will help to keep the nuns and nunnery safe.

These cameras are equipped with night vision, motion detection, and color-enhancing features, which will help improve both security and day-to-day monitoring of the nunnery.

The new system allows for better visibility, especially at night, and helps alert the nuns to any unexpected movement around the area. It also supports clearer footage, making it easier to keep track of what’s going on.

The area around the nunnery has become much busier over the years and the nuns must be kept safe. The new CCTV cameras have both night vision and motion detection.

The cameras are being managed by the Media Nuns, who are doing a great job monitoring and maintaining the system. This upgrade makes the nunnery safer and gives the nuns hands-on experience with technology and security management.
